THE TRI-BD!
A Guide To The Best Bathrooms in the Tri-State Area!
If you are here, you know how important finding access to a bathroom quickly is. And nothing is more terrifying than the thought of NOT knowing where you can safely and urgently escape to a can that is clean, private and close by!
Here are some of my favorites in New York City:
Barnes and Noble- Union Square Grand Central Station – The underground downstairs option is fine- not amazing or private but it does the job. Take the escalator down. Or, if you are a female or want to brave a smile line for the “family” stall – there is a less traveled more “secret” location for these in the Station Master's Office on the upper level next to Track 37. *My mom loves this option! All NY Public Libraries have restrooms open to the public. Use their website location finder to find the closest NYPL:
NYC Hotel Lobbies: Most hotel lobbies usually have bathrooms. If key entry is needed, confidently walk towards the lobby bar restaurant area and look around as if meeting someone, then return to main guest check in lobby counter and say, “where are the bathrooms- I have a meeting in the restaurant but they aren’t here yet- is there a bathroom I can use while I wait?” This usually does the trick!
Midtown /Upper West: Whole Foods at Columbus circle (bottom floor of mall in the eating area)
Midtown /Upper East: Whole Foods (57th between 2nd and 3rd Ave.), Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales
Times Square: Marriott Marquis (I believe you have to take the elevator up. I’ve used it once or twice when I was in a bind. Very clean.)
Bryant Park: Le Pain Quotidien (walk right in like you’re meeting someone – it’s on the right), Bryant Park public bathroom (very nice! on 42nd Street), Whole Foods
Madison Square Park: Self-cleaning public restroom at the park (50 cents per use)
Herald Square: Uniqlo, Macy’s
Lower East Side: Whole Foods market on Houston (walk up to second floor, all the way to the left)
Soho: Nespresso Boutique walk inside and to the right, take elevator down)
Tribecca: Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble
Financial District: The Oculus at World Trade (you will find a few bathrooms at this mall – I like the bathroom by Eataly upstairs),Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble
Really any LE PAIN QUOTIDIAN in NYC will do. Just pretend like you are meeting someone and then scout where the bathrooms are!
